“As Principal and previously as Chairperson for Operation Newstart Geelong, I have seen first-hand how the program has not only changed the lives of young men and women from my school community but also how it has impacted on lives of so many Geelong, Bellarine and Surf Coast young people, their families and communities.

The vision for Operation Newstart Geelong, helps us to focus community resources on critical needs facing our youth. It brings agencies together and gives not only the individuals in the program, but their base school and families the skills they require to cope in their community.

The program has become a vital link between organisations working on behalf of students in our community to encounter each other and work together on common goals using coordinated approaches.

Operation Newstart Geelong’s work is vital as we move forward to continue to improve outcomes for youth in our region who are at serious risk of dropping out of education and training. It provides options, opportunities and hope for our young people, so necessary in our community.”

“The Operation Newstart program provides our school’s most vulnerable students with an invaluable educational experience during a critical stage in their development.

Students faced with a range of risk factors including hardship at home, substance use, low self-esteem and learning difficulties have all benefited from the Operation Newstart program. The blend of therapeutic, outdoor adventure, career and community service activities have consistently improved students’ wellbeing through a renewed sense of personal efficacy and willingness to seek help from trusted adult role models.

The ongoing work of Operation Newstart plays a vital role in assisting young people to remain engaged in education and to rebuild connections with their families and community.”
